Adding temperature sensors to your home system can allow you to monitor if your attic is getting to warm and requires a fan to be turned on, or allow you to receive a notification if a room in your house is getting too cold.
Temperature Sensor Types
Your Retinasoft Security system will support any DHT22 digital temperature sensor.
Wiring Diagrams
- Red wire: Pin 1 on the DHT22 connects to 5V
- Yellow wire: Pin 2 on the DHT22 connects any GPIO pin
- Green wire: Pin3 on the DHT22 connects to GND (ground)
- Red wire: Pin 1 on the DHT22 connects to 5V
- Yellow wire: Pin 2 on the DHT22 connects any digital pin
- Green wire: Pin3 on the DHT22 connects to GND (ground)
Step by step...
Step 1
Run 22/4 security wire to the location that you want your security sensor to be installed. DHT22 temperature / humidity sensors are reliable over distances up to 70 ft.
Step 2
Strip off the outter shielding of the wire you are going to attach to the temperature sensor. Then, strip the inner shield of three of the 4 wires as shown below:

The three exposed wires must now be attached to the DHT22 temperature. For consistency, connect the red wire to the left pin, the white wire to the second pin from the left, skip the third pin and finally connect the black wire to the fourth pin. Colors may vary based on the brand of wire.
If you are proficient in soldering, you can solder the wires directly to the DHT22 pins. However, in this example we have used 3 female-to-female jumper wires to connect the wires to the DHT22 pins:
Step 4
If you soldered the connections, you will may want to add hot glue around your solder points to keep them from touching other things that may cause a short. If you took the approach of using jumper wires, you will want to add hot glue to those connections to keep them in place.
Step 5
Mount the DHT22 sensor on a wall using either a screw or an adhesive product. Use the optional DHT22 cover for an attractive appearance:
