Keypad

You can turn any Android tablet into a keypad and mount it to your wall using the same security wire that you would use for a traditional security keypad.

What Will I Need?

We recommend using a Samsung 8.0" Tab A (2019 model). This tablet is very affordable and is still very responsive. The Tab A is available here from Amazon.

You will need to provide power to your tablet as well as get a mount that fits the model of tablet you select.

Wall Mount

You should be able to find a wall mount for most types of common tablets. For the Samsung Tab A, mounts can be found on Amazon here and here.

USB Cable

You will need a USB cable to plug directly into the tablet. This cable will also connect to the 12V USB Charger. Given that you will be mounting this tablet, we recommend finding a flat USB cable with a 90 degree angle. The Samsung Tab A uses micro-USB to charge, so you can use a cable found here.

Note: For micro USB, note the direction of the 90 degree angle so that the cable bends back towards the wall when mounted. USB 1.2 is reversed and will not work as well for mounting with a Samsung tablet.

12V USB Charger

Use a 12V USB charger to connect the tablet to two of the security wires. Note the color of the wires. The red wire needs to connect to (+) on the 12V power adapter, and the black wire needs to connect to (-) on the 12V power adapter.

A 12V USB charger can be purchased here.

12V Power adapter

The 12V power adapter will be used on the other end of the security wire (by the security panel). Connect the same wire that is connected to the red wire of the USB charger to the (+) on the 12V power adapter. Connect the same wire that is connected to the black wire of the USB charger to the (-) on the 12V power adapter. Then plug that into an outlet with the supplied power cable.

A 12V power adapter can be purchased here.

All Hooked Up. Now What?

Once your tablet is mounted and you have supplied power to it, go to the Google Play Store and install the Voltsec app. Sign into your account just as you would from your phone.

Once you have the app open, go into the "Settings" section and select "Keypad Setup". In this section, you can configure the audio features of the keypad as well as set up to four custom buttons.

After you have saved your preferences, you will see a button at the top that says "Set as Keypad". Clicking that button will put your tablet into "Keypad Mode". This will keep the screen active as long as Voltsec is open and will also remove all other Voltsec configuration features for security reasons.
